As an orthodontist, Dr. Seagraves routinely gets to watch her patients grow in confidence as their teeth are
straightened and their new smile is revealed. Nothing makes her happier than seeing a patient’s reaction
when they look at their smile for the first time after their braces have come off. She’s proud to be a
member of the excellent team here at Chicago Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, and she’s eager to welcome
you and your loved ones into our practice. To learn a little more about her, read on below!
Why Did You Decide to Become an Orthodontist?
When she was a child, Dr. Seagraves underwent two phases of orthodontic treatment, so she was very familiar
with orthodontics starting in the third grade. She admits that she loved going to see her orthodontist for
her progress checks and seeing the changes occurring in her smile. He made the treatment process fun and
taught her a lot about moving the teeth and planning ahead, and this inspired her to follow in his
footsteps.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?
After finishing her undergrad at Miami University in Oxford, OH, she went on to earn her dental degree from the
University of Maryland. This was followed by completing an orthodontic residency at the University of Illinois
at Chicago. Always pushing herself to learn more and provide better care, Dr. Seagraves regularly pursues
continuing education and maintains memberships in several professional organizations, including the:
- American Association of Orthodontists
- Illinois Society of Orthodontists
- Midwestern Society of Orthodontists
- American Dental Association
- Illinois State Dental Society
- Chicago Dental Society
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
Dr. Seagraves comes from a large family (she is the second of five children), so most of her free time is
dedicated to hanging out with her loved ones, especially her adorable nieces and nephews. She also likes to stay
active by practicing yoga and hiking. When relaxing, you’ll usually find her reading (fantasy, sci-fi,
historical fiction), crocheting, sewing, or listening to podcasts. She also loves mugs and has an entire
cupboard dedicated to keeping her collection.
